Why Do I Need a Custom Stock?

This is a very debated question. Do I really need a custom stock? My personal feeling is yes you do. For years I suffered with inconsistent scores and struggled to break good scores on those bad weather days that seem to be the norm lately instead of just an occasion today. Don't get me wrong I have seen people pick up a used gun and go out the next day and win a tournament. That is the exception and not the rule.

The key to shooting in comfort and breaking consistent scores is the fit of your gun to you and you alone. There are many stock makers around the country but very few gun fitters that can also make a stock. It is not rocket science but an art and as most arts go it is dying everyday. I had a coach way back when and as I learned there are many coaches. But some folks have a way about them and the approach they use is easy to follow. If something happens to that person where they are no longer able to do what they do it is a loss and it creates a void in the shooting circle. The loss of a spoke in the wheel causes a wheel to eventually break. There may someday be someone to take the place of the old spoke but it may be years before the skill level is developed or ever replaced.

A custom stock is a big investment but it is the single most important part of the game that you need to have done if you want to see improvement in your overall game. No matter who does your custom stock do the home work and find a company or person that can do what you want to have done. Pretty is great but nothing ever replaces fit. Also remember to have the gun you are shooting fit to you and not just a stock made and named after a famous shooter. First if you are not built like that shooter how are you ever going to shoot a stock designed for him. Remember the talent of a shooter does not go with the equipment that he or she is using. Fit, dedication and hard work is the key to any successful outcome.

Sincerely yours,
